Why would I bring my dog to a doggy daycare?

The vast majority of dogs suffer from the same problem, lack of appropriate exercise & canine stimulation. This lack of stimulation is both physical and mental stimulation that can lead to obesity and a laundry list of behavioral problems.

The average dog spends 8-10 hours a day at home alone, waiting for someone to come back and play with them. This lack of adequate stimulation causes dogs to get bored and frustrated. They have no positive outlet for their normal canine energy.

Doggy daycare is the answer for many dogs.

Some of our favorite perks are:
  • Doggy Daycare provides exercise throughout the day (instead of lying on your couch); it can be part of your dog's fitness program.
  • Develops socialization skills (with their K9 pals).
  • Reduces separation anxiety (yours and theirs).
  • Builds confidence in shy dogs.
  • Renews vigor and cognitive function in senior dogs.
  • Lets you feel comfortable knowing they are safe!
  • Helps curb destructive behaviours (like chewing your shoes).
  • Increases bonding at home with your content dog!

Who takes care of the dogs?  Are they high school kids or ??

.

The people we hire to care for your dog are called K9 Care Givers or Pet Care Technitions (if they hold their certification).  K9HQ has strict hiring policies.  All people hired are adults that truly have a passion for dogs.  This they have to prove with a history of volunteer work with dogs or previous industry experience such as working in a veterinarian office.  In addition, they must show that they have thirst for knowledge about canines.  This is shown by the books they have read and courses taken.  It is not enough to have had a dog of your own to get a job at K9HQ.  We are only interested in people with long term goals of working with dogs.  Check our About Us page for information on our K9 Care Givers, the people who will be spending the day with your dog and mine.

K9HQ is 3400 square foot indoor open concept facility with a fully fenced outdoor potty area that the dogs have access to throughout the day.

.

What will my dog do throughout the day?
.
Your dog will be playing with dogs of his or her size and temperament. Their activities include, but are not limited to: romping, wrestling, tug, KONG toys, and yes, being pampered.   In addition, they learn a few tricks to bring home like the "wave" and the "hug".
.
K9HQ offers physical activity and exercise, in addition to mental stimulation.

With the average 9 hour visit it is imperative for their health that the dogs rest during their stay.  Exhaustion has proven to be detrimental on the immune system.  With this in mind a NAP TIME and REST PERIODS are given.

The nap will help rebuild their energy stores while the rest periods aid in allowing them "down" time so they are not over stimulated.
.
The benefits to the young and old is amazing, confidence builds in the shy dog, renewed vigor in the old dog, responsiveness in the young dog, along with stamina and fitness in the overweight.
.
You have to see it to believe it. Check out what our customers say on our Testimonial page.

My dog is not spayed (or neutered). Can they still come?
.
Depending on the age of your pup, you may still bring them. Please read on for recommendations and K9HQ policy.

Female dogs are recommended spayed at age of 6 months, which is normally prior to their first heat cycle.
.
During their heat cycle, females can be a bit grumpy and not suitable for a social setting.  In addition, while in heat they may be pestered by male dogs (in and out of daycare), which is not suitable during their developmental stage (6-14months).
.
Please speak with your veterinarian about the pros/cons for your dog regarding spaying.
.
With all of that said, yes intact females are allowed except during their heat cycle.
 .
Male dogs attending K9HQ must be neutered by 8 months of age or earlier if undesirable behaviours (marking and or obsessive mounting) develop.
.
Keep in mind that intact male dogs are not necessarily aggressive.  What we find is that neutered males may be intimidated and do not always respond with their best manners.
.
So, for safety we have found a cutoff period works best in a group social setting.
.
Please speak with our veterinarian for advise on the pros/cons of neutering your dog.
.

I want to go on vacation. Can I leave my dog with you?

Sandbox Skills & Attendance Requirements
.
All dogs must be friendly to both people and other dogs.  K9HQ does an evaluation to assess your dog’s sociability and suitability in our daycare environment.  This extends to the first 5 visits.
As dogs have a relatively short lifespan, their behaviour can change over a period of months.  Your dog should visit at least every three months or may need to be re-evaluated prior to coming back after an extended absence.
.
Please see the Requirements page for more details.
.
.
.
