Working with the Langford Fire Department and Emergency Social Services, K9HQ held our first Fire Drill / Evacution.
The Langford Fire Department fill the building with smoke, then the Air Horn was sounded & the drill began. We were able to evacuate the building with 38 dogs in 7 minutes. After a roll call with Identification tags placed on each dog, they were either walked or driven to our Evacuation Centre.
The Volunteers at Emergency Social Services (ESS) handled things very well, registering each and every dog.
Your dogs were awesome! Other than a little excitement and pulling on the walk (this is FUN - where are we going), they behaved extremely well and were very calm during the intake at the Evacuation Centre.
After a drink of water, some cuddles, and pictures, they were walked/driven back to K9HQ for (lunch) NAPTIME.
I truly appreciate you having your dog participate in the event. It will only benefit us if we ever were in an emergency situtation.
K9HQ will now hold a Fire Drill / Evacuation twice per year. With knowledge gained in this exercise, we believe an evacuation can be completed safely in under 5 minutes.

First the building is filled with smoke....

The Langford Fire Department rolls onto the "scene".

Our evacuation plan goes into play....

First the little/tiny dogs are removed from the building using crates.

Next, the first of the large dogs come out while the little dogs are loaded into a truck.

More dogs exit the building

and more dogs....

The Langford Fire Dept. goes to work... This is an exercise for them as well.

Once out of the building, we all met at our safe "meeting place" (everyone should designate their own meeting place away from their home in the event of an emergency) . Once there, roll call was done, then we proceeded by foot and truck to the evacuation centre for Emergency Social Services "intake".

The Emergency Fire Drill / Evacuation was a success. We safely exited the building with 38 dogs in 7 minutes and made our way to the Emercency Social Services Evacuation Centre for "intake". The key for our drill was not speed but to practice exiting safely and with everyone accounted for.
